House Elf

I've decided that my house must have a little elf that lives here. I have had several experiences with this elf over the last 6 months, and I have finally decided that an elf is the only explanation for what has happened.

Here is how it started......

We got a new TV and the codes for our other remote wouldn't work with our new tv so we had to start using 2 remotes (a huge pain and it bugs me all the time--but not enough to look up to see if there are new codes I could use....mostly just enough to complain about it when I can't find the tv remote and have to actually stand.up.and.walk.over.to.the.actual.tv to turn it on. A few months ago we couldn't find the tv remote. Our stages of looking followed this plan:

1. For a few days it was just a "we should look and find that remote"
2. Then it turned into "I am actually looking places to find the remote"
   
3. Finally progressing to "tearing apart the house trying to find the remote".
   

We could not find it, despite hours of looking for it. One day I'm in the kitchen cooking dinner and Aaron walks into the kitchen.....carrying the remote! I have no idea where he got it from (now I realize the elf gave it to him).

Fast forward about a month and a half and we have the same situation. We went through all of the previous three stages and still no remote. This time I specifically looked in places that Aaron might put it--under furniture, in the toy box, etc....nothing.

Yep...you guessed it, one day Aaron walks into the kitchen carrying the remote! Astoudning.

Then the latest incident happened yesterday. We are getting ready to leave for church--and by getting ready I mean yelling at the kids to get in the car and trying to remember all of the things I should have already put in the car and leave before I run out of time to get things done at church....anyway, I started trying to find my keys--my key ring that also holds the keys to the primary closets, the library (so I can make my copies for our mothers day activity in primary), and the car keys (the least important right then)....nothing. Matt and I spend 30 minutes looking--we looked everywhere--cupboards, basement, pockets, drawers, etc, etc, etc. I couldn't find them anywhere. Finally, after 30 minutes, I gave up and went to church--we couldn't give out the birthday prize to the kids in primary, we had no seat covers to indicate where classes should sit (and lots of subs because of mothers day) and I barely had time to make the copies and was rushed the entire day.

We get home and change and the kids go to get in the car and the car is locked. We have been home only about 15 minutes and the only way for the doors to be locked from the house was with the remote on my keys--but still no keys. So we go to Grandma's for dinner. After dinner we come home, get the kids in bed and sit on the couch. I look down and there, in the middle of the floor, were my keys! There is no way that they were there earlier, I would have stepped on them.

So that is how I know that I have a house elf......or maybe 4 of them.
