Spring Break: Tennessee Aquarium

After getting back from Utah and taking a week to start feeling better, none of us really wanted to do much over spring break!  The kids (and I) were so happy to just relax at home for the most part!  We took advantage of a couple of days with nice weather and went places, but other than that we hung out at the house and enoyed NOT being in a hotel!

We went to the Tennessee Aquarium, again.  I think this is probably the 6-7 time we have gone since we got our passes 7 months ago.  It has been really fun, even with a 2 hour drive to get there.
Our first stop is always the area to touch the sting rays. Usually Aaron's arms are too short, but today he got to touch one the kept swimming really close to the surface right by the place for little kids to stand.
A quick group picture before the butterfly area.
Caroline and Alex LOVE the butterfly area.  Carter and Aaron HATE the butterfly area....it makes for a fun time trying to convince Caroline and Alex to hurry and Aaron and Carter to stay in the room.

Have I mentioned before that I only have 2 types of kids? It is really funny how alike Caroline and Alex are (center of attention, love to perform, outgoing, etc., even down to the birthmark they both have) and how alike Carter and Aaron are (don't like to perform, funny, more reserved, don't like a lot of attention, etc., neither of them have a birthmark).
A butterfly landed on my head.  We tried to transfer it to one of the kids, but it flew off during the transfer.
Caroline takes great shots of butterflies!
Alex wanted to get a butterfly on his finger without any help (in the mean time Aaron and Carter are sitting between the two sets of doors in the exit so they don't have to be bothered by the butterflies).  We were all thrilled when he finally got this butterfly! And we quickly moved on to the penguins!
We got lucky today at the aquarium, it was the first day of penguin mating season (woo hoo!) which didn't mean much for us except they had a lot of people around talking about the penguins--and we came at feeding time which was fun.  It was also shark feeding day--luckily that had nothing to do with the penguins!
Who can resist the giant crabs?
Caroline loves jellyfish--but they are hard to get good pictures of without a tripod!
We then moved from the Ocean building to the River building.
Our favorite thing about this building is all the turtles!
This frog was pretty cool too!

We drove home and decided to start a new tradition.  On the way home from Chattanooga or the Tellus museum, we stop at Sonic and get a shake to eat on the drive home. We stop when we are 2/3 of the way home so it is the perfect pick me up to get all of us through the last part of the drive!
