Father & Sons Campout/Girls Night Out

I'll start with the Father and Son's campout. Since I wasn't there I will just relate the stories that I heard.

• My dad and Grandpa Olsen went up with Matt, Carter and Alex to the campout. For dinner the plan was to have mummy hot dogs cooked in a dutch oven. To make mummy hot dogs you take regular hot dogs and wrap them in bread stick dough then cook them. The kids love these. Well, Matt was late getting there and my dad had never made the mummy hot dogs before so they didn't turn out so well. Plan B involved roasting hot dogs over the fire. My dad commented to Alex that they didn't have any hot dog buns. The next thing he knows is Alex has gone to the other side of the fire, went straight to another dad with his sons, reached in a grocery sack, pulled out 2 hot dog buns and came back! Apparently Alex had been watching and knew that this dad had hot dog buns and exactly where they were kept....what a funny boy. My dad did take Alex back and made him ask permission to have the buns (though after he had handled them, there wasn't much chance that they would want them back.
• Saturday morning Matt was in charge of the breakfast. When he was cleaning up Alex and Carter joined a bunch of other kids and dads over by the lake. I'm sure you can see where this is heading. (Matt claims he asked one of the dads to watch the boys, but he won't name names, so we can't be sure) Matt is just finishing the clean up when Carter walks back--completely soaked. Alex is right behind him. Apparently Alex pushed Carter in the lake then jumped in the lake after him! Needless to say that was the end of the camp out for our family.

Here are the pictures of the father and sons camp out--don't try to find Alex or Carter in the crowds, because they are not in a single picture--nor is anyone else that I recognize! But there is a good picture of the fire.

Don't worry about pictures of the kids--we have some of the dessert!You might wonder about our Girls Night Out party that we had while the boys were all gone on the camp out. This year and last year we decided that we wanted to have a girls night out party--but no one wanted to plan anything. So this year we went to Shanna's house (last year it was Catherine's). We made pizza, ate the pizza, had a brownie. Debated if we should watch a movie or just go home. Finally we decided to watch a movie.

We started watching the movie. About 1/3 of the way through Lisa left with Ellie because Ellie wasn't going to sleep and Lisa had spent the whole time in the other room trying to get her to sleep. Half way through, Jennifer went up to bed. We were all a little jealous because we couldn't (Shanna couldn't because we were all still at her house and the rest of us didn't have beds to go up to!). About 2/3 the way through I got up and started doing the dishes because I needed to stay awake--I was shortly joined by Shanna and Mom (I think they were up for the same reason). The movie finally ended and we all went home and went straight to bed.

We decided that next year we have got to step up the party, or not do it all together....it is a little embarassing that we have such a sorry tradition.
