The Zoo

Monday morning Shanna called me and said that since we were finally having some good weather they were going to the zoo and did we want to come?

It was a school day, but the last Monday before school was out, and Aunt Jennifer was in town and would be leaving the next day, and Grandma and Grandpa Olsen were going with Great Grandma and Grandpa Olsen....so I declared it a day to ditch school and we went to the zoo. When I picked Caroline up from school she said "Finally, I get out of school for something that is worth it" (meaning not a dr appointment).

The nice thing about buying an annual pass is that you don't feel pressure to get your money's worth--you don't have to go and spend the entire day, you can skip things and see them next time, you get the idea.

Well, this time, we decided to pretty much skip the Animals--I mean really, there are lots of things at the zoo besides a bunch of animals....

Who wants to look at a bunch of Kangaroos hopping around and eating when you could look at a sign about how high they can jump?
Why should you look at a bunch of gorillas playing, eating, babies chasing each other, and so many other fun things, when you can climb on a couple of gorilla statues (and fight over who gets to be on them)?
This was what we absolutely could not miss--
The Train
Rock Climbing (Caroline and Abigail)
Watching the rock climbing
The Carousel
Of course, spending so much time at the zoo, we were bound to run into a few animals....

We spent a little time in the petting zoo. At first it was fun to brush the goats and sheep and pigs....
Carter thought it was great when the goat brushed past him while he was petting the pig

There were about 8 of us standing in a circle talking when all of the sudden this goat pushed through the edge of the circle and stood in the middle of us--as if to remind us that we were supposed to be "petting" animals in the petting zoo.
After a while, we forgot about all the great animals that we could touch--instead we tried to see how many animals we could find pooping....we saw 3-4 goats, and then someone spotted some great pig poop
Then we got a really great treat when one of the pigs walked right to where we were standing and pooped in front of us--how lucky were we?!??

We also managed to go see the panda bears that we had missed last time due to the huge crowds. Today we saw the sister playing out in the "yard", the baby asleep, and the mom and dad eating (funny how moms and dads are all the same--the kids go to bed and the parents eat!).
The dad panda bear was right next to the glass--Alex was so excited that he was so close--I didn't think i was going to be able to drag him away from the glass.
sorry for the bad picture--we couldn't use the flash.

What was Aaron doing during everything? Looking cute and being a great baby--as always.

I love the zoo, but I think I'm the only one in the family who actually wants to see the animals there
