In a moment of weakness I signed Alex up for Soccer this spring. I was swayed from my determination that kids shouldn't do organized sports this early (not for their sakes, for mine) by two of my good friends signing up their 3 year-olds for the same team.
We had a rough start--practice from 6-7pm (not working so well when it was dark by 6 and Alex is used to being in bed by 6:30), unusually cold weather for March, and the first two games canceled because of rain.
Daylight savings, and some warmer weather has made practices decent, and we finally had our first game on Saturday.

The rules state that every game will end in a tie. There aren't any goalies, and the teams split in half and play on two adjacent fields--so everyone plays the whole time.

Alex was thrilled he had lots of chances to kick the ball

He was also thrilled that his buddy Owen is on his team

He loves having Ansley on his team

At the end of the game, Alex was tired so he decided to play Goalie
This might look like a great idea, except for the fact that the ball was on the opposite end of the field....and not really likely to come back anytime soon...and the rules state that there are no goalies :) But he was ready. The game was pretty fun. The kids were able to get the ball a lot, but almost impossible for any of them to turn it in the opposite direction--it had to go out of bounds before it could change direction. There was also a little bully on the other team. Matt actually caught a few of them....but I think every kid on our team ended up on the ground because of him..

Keeping it RealJust to keep it real....we also discovered putting our shirt over our head...

And he said snack time was his favorite part of the game.

Should be a fun season!

I haven't quite figured out why there is ALWAYS one kid that has to be mean. It makes you wonder what his parents are thinking while they are watching him knock little kids to the ground.
Glad he had fun, that is the cutest!
He looks like he is in his total element. I love the picture with his arm around his friend.
I loved how excited he was to play.
