That was the last time I considered dying Easter Eggs. I had a moment of weakness this year and bought a dye kit. I had decided not to use it, but I invited Shanna and her kids over to play one day and I was cleaning and found that kit....In a moment of weakness I decided to let the kids dye eggs.

Coloring Easter Eggs
About 5 years ago I purchased some egg dye to use with the kids. I had it in my closet, waiting for the day to come to dye the eggs. This was a gel dye, not the normal tablets (yes, this was a rookie mistake, I know that now). One day, Caroline discovered the dye. I realized she had discovered it when I saw several empty dye packets on my closet floor--along several streams of color almost in a straight line..right across every pair of pants I owned, all hanging in my closet. (it did, luckily, come out...but still)

I did have a moment of mommy guilt when I saw how excited the kids were--especially when Caroline asked me if I had ever dyed Easter Eggs when I was little (every year, we helped my grandma dye dozens and dozens of eggs for her annual Easter egg hunt).
It actually went amazingly well. Alex was the only one who spilled anything--and even then it didn't really get on anything.
With very little effort to control the number of eggs dyed (Alex and Jack dyed the most), we had a small miracle occur and Shanna and I each left with the exact same number of eggs--her kids' eggs are on the left, my kids' eggs are on the right.
It was a lot of fun--the kids LOVED it, there wasn't much mess to clean up, and nothing got stained....this might turn out to be a tradition after all.

looks like you had a good time. we skipped out on making easter eggs.
I used to love to dye eggs with all of you! That was more fun than finding candy.
We dyed eggs all the time as a kid, but I haven't dared to do it yet with the kids. Maybe next year. My mom did once when I just had 2 and it went okay. She thinks I'm a bad mommy for giving them plastic eggs. I counter that they have way more eggs to go hide over and over and over for days.
