4th of July--Kennesaw Mountain

For the 4th of July Lisa and Ellie and my parents joined us on a hike up Kennesaw mountain.  Kennesaw mountain is a national battlefield and was the site of a Civil War battle.  I could remember going once before with my parents when we first moved to Georgia, but that was a lot of years ago, so we thought it would be something fun and somewhat fitting to do on the 4th of July.

It was a great hike--and not easy to do in the hot humid weather of July.  The battle at Kennesaw mountain ended July 2nd--starting a couple weeks prior to that, so we were about the right time of year...but it rained and rained during the battle, and we all had to admit that we had a hard enough time getting up to the top without wearing wool uniforms, pushing up cannons in the mud and rain, and in the middle of a battle.  Every time I visit a civil war battlefield I am amazed what those people went through.
