July 2nd we drove back up to North Georgia (though not nearly as far as the hike we went on the day before) to our favorite boating river--the Chestatee (also known as the turtle river because of all the turtles we see there). We like this river because it is really calm, but has some fun (but small) rapids, it has a great beach area midway through where we usually stop and have lunch, and (probably the biggest reason) is that there is an outfitter that offers shuttle service--so for $5 you can drop off your boats at the put in then drive your car to the take out--then they shuttle you back. They, of course, also rent their own boats, but it is really nice to have shuttle service and not have to drive 2 cars and work out shuttling everyone.
Here are the boys waiting for Matt to get back from dropping off the car.
Carter took the kid kayak for the first time. When Caroline is with us, she usually takes the kid kayak, Carter and Alex go in the Canoe with Matt, and Aaron and I take the orange kayak. This time I was by myself. Carter was still a bit nervous so we tied a tow rope between the canoe and the kids kayak--Matt had the very difficult job of not only steering a canoe with two wiggly kids, but also having a kayak behind him to worry about!
Here is Matt and the boys going through one of the rapids
This is me going through one of the rapids. Luckily this isn't a movie and you can't see all the mistakes I make! I could never make it in the canoe.
