Tellus Science Museum

This was our second time going to the Tellus Science Museum--last time was 2 years ago and it was fun, but  I didn't remember it being amazing.  This time was so much more fun and interesting (I think it had more to do with the kids being older than anything the museum had changed!)  It ended up only being $20 more to buy an annual pass than to just go once, so we bought the pass and will be going a lot more often now!
The boys loved the space area--they liked the astronaut suit, but spent most of their time looking at the different space shuttles and rockets and watching a video of a shuttle launching.
Aaron loved the trains--and the cars to a lesser extent.  The early cars they had were amazing to look at.  I didn't remember early cars looking so much like the buggies that were hooked to horses.  I know I saw them last time, but it was pretty neat to see them again.  They had a replica of the bi-plane that the Wright brothers flew and the kids were amazed at the difference between that and airplanes as they know them!
The play area is always fun--music, magnets, weather...
Another fun thing they offer is free gem mining (little slivers of gems) and fossil digging.  You can take as many gems as you want and you can take one fossil.  The fossils are pretty neat--they remind me somewhat of the owl pellet science lab that the kids do in 3rd grade!
We also got to see a solar house that was built by students at Georgia Tech and entered in a contest held on the Mall in Washington, DC.  It was pretty neat to see--and Caroline had just finished a unit on solar energy for science so it fit right in.  We did go see the planetarium show (all digital)--Alex and Aaron thought it was pretty scary--those images taken from space can be scary!  But they did make it through the whole show and we didn't have to leave, so I call that a success!  I think all of us are excited to go again--I only wish it were a little closer, the hour drive makes it  a little difficult!
