It's been a long time coming, but we actually had a pretty fun 4th of July! (And no--we did not go to any parades!).
Matt had been anxious to take Caroline and Carter on a backpacking trip, and the plan was for him to go Thursday/Friday. Unfortunately, after working 21 hour days for about 4 days, he was in no shape to drive anywhere on Thursday afternoon. So they went Friday night instead.
Saturday, the 4th, Alex, Aaron and I joined my family for breakfast cookout at a park on the Chattahoochee. The kids had fun playing on the playground, filling their shoes with sand, and telling people about the sign stating "DO NOT FEED THE GEESE"--and then telling them over and over when said people ignore the kids. Did I mention pancakes, syrup, eggs and bacon? It was fun.

After breakfast, we went home and relaxed until Matt and the kids came home. The backpacking trip was successful--2 mile hike to the campsite and the kids carried their own gear without complaint. However, who would have guessed that it would have gotten COLD??? (normally you stop camping in July because it is so horribly hot). Apparently there was very little sleep because of all the time spent trying to get warm.
(This fits with the idea I had growing up--you weren't really camping unless you woke up 3 times a night because you were so cold!)For dinner we went to Shanna's house for hot dogs and burgers....it was fun, but Shanna's slip-n-slide was the star of the evening.

After Dinner almost everyone headed for fireworks, Alex,Aaron, Matt and I headed home (Grandma and Grandpa took Caroline and Carter with them to see the fireworks). I really wanted to go, but when both boys started having meltdowns in the car on the way home, I knew I had made the correct choice.
