Vacation--Day Two Pine Grove Furnace

Since we had driven further last night than we had planned, we had extra time for a detour to a place Matt had wanted to spend our vacation at originally.

We first made a quick stop at the Pennsylvania Welcome Center. There were a few people inside the welcome center dressed in period clothing and told stories to the kids about where we were going (they asked our plans then told stories about those places). We heard stories about Philadelphia, Milton Hershey, Gettysburg, and the Amish.

After the stories we went outside and found some great rocks to jump off of....
After the welcome center we stopped at Pine Grove Furnace. Pine Grove Furnace State Park is a great park.
The Appalachian Trail crosses through the park and they have 2 lakes and a little general store for hikers to pick up supplies.
This was a familiar sight on our vacation--Alex's back as he runs away.
We ate a picnic lunch in one of the picnic areas next to the trail and we saw a birds nest with some hungry baby birds--the mother flew in 6-7 times giving her babies food while we ate and watched--it was so neat.
the hungry babies--there were about 5 in the nest.
After this we finally headed to the hotel to check in and get ready for Hershey....
