Every year before school starts, the kids and I take a trip up to Dahlonega. We go to a gold mine (they still have gold that they mine on their property--both for them and to sell to tourists/gold miners) and pan for gems (gold is fun but really tiny--gems are great big, pretty rocks!). We also have a tradition to stop at a picnic area by a dam in Dahlonega and eat lunch and watch the ducks. After lunch we drive into downtown and have some ice cream at Connie's Ice cream shop. We look at all the fun things in the general store and then head home. This year we were thrilled when Grandpa and Great Grandpa came along!
We always take a picture of the kids on a bench outside the ice cream shop...I love looking back at these pictures, though I think sometimes that Aaron is the only one who has grown!
