Tallulah Gorge

While Grandpa Olsen was visiting we tried to do as many fun things as possible.  Unfortunately June/July turned out to be months where we had more rain then I ever remember getting in Georgia (over the 2 months we got 18-19" of rain!).  We headed out to visit Tallulah Gorge hoping for the best!

We made it to the visitors center after a 90 minute drive and it wasn't raining.  We decided to eat lunch near the car (to avoid having to haul everything needed to feed us all!).  After lunch we got the hats out and the baby carriers and headed to the visitors center to connect with the trails.  Just at that time, the rain started.
A group shot at the trail head, just outside the visitors center.  Alex, it turns out, was running a fever and not feeling well so I ended up carrying him the entire time.
We hiked/walked through the rain and mud and made it to a couple of the observation points.  It really is an impressive sight!
After a few pictures we split up--My grandpa and Carter and Alex and I stayed behind while the others went to see the swinging rope bridge that spans the gorge later on.  Matt came back with Aaron shortly and we decided we had enough of the rain and wanted to get back to the visitors center. Helping my grandpa walk in the rain, through the mud, while carrying a very sick Alex and managing Carter and Aaron (who was tired and wanting to be held) was quite the task for Matt and I (and one I wasn't sure we would succeed at!).  Luckily we made it and the others caught up with us and we watched the movie in the visitors center on the history of the gorge.  We decided that was enough fun for one day and we all headed home to dry off and (in Alex's case) sleep.
