Wild Animal Safari

When we were planning places to take Grandpa I knew that he would absolutely LOVE seeing the Wild Animal Safari.  Lisa and I talked dad into going with us (that way he could drive while we handled the kids).  It was Grandpa's last full day with us and we headed out for the 2 hour drive first thing in the morning.  We rented one of their loaner vans.  You are welcome to drive your own car, and some do, but if you have seen the condition of the rentals and see what the animals do, the $20 to rent is a small price to pay!  The secrets to a successful trip is to buy plenty of food and get there early (before the animals have eaten too much and aren't hungry enough to come close to the van).  All of these animals are rescue animals that wouldn't survive in the wild.  It is pretty fun to see some wild animals up close and personal (sometimes a little too close and personal!). All of the windows have bars on them (to keep the animals from coming inside), but the front windows didn't have bars on--I think some of them made Grandpa a little nervous when the were coming right through his window!  William was staying with us for a few days so he came on the safari too.

Gavin demonstrating what the animals do!

The guides they give you say you can let all the animals eat out of your hands...except the zebras.  Apparently zebras are known for biting, we haven't tested that.  We are happy to trust their word to be satisfied with throwing the food for the zebras.

The camel used to be out and would eat from your hand, but this time he was behind a fence and you had to throw the food to him.

After we finished the drive we ate lunch and then headed to the walking area of the safari to see the animals that are a little more secure.

There were a couple of peacocks that were wandering around while we were eating lunch.

The goats wanted to come join us...I was worried they just might!
