[Don't] Look at the Camera

I've come to realize that my kids may believe in some ancient myths/superstitions regarding having your picture taken--something about not looking into the camera or it would steal your soul.

I really have only one reason to think this--it is virtually impossible to get my kids to look at the camera when taking their picture. They will point their faces toward the camera, smile/say cheese/grimace (whatever they feel like doing), but it takes many shots before you can get them to slip up and look at the camera.

Some examples....
I got one of the 3 here...not bad at least everyone is smiling
This is Carter 'smiling' when he is tired of posing...again 1 of 3
not even an attempt to smile
I guess it could just be that they think I won't notice--but being told over and over "keep your eyes on the camera" seems to disprove that theory...I've tried talking to them, promising that various things would appear on top of the camera, and threatening them asking them nicely but nothing seems to work.... Thank goodness for digital cameras!

Apparently Aaron has this trait too....look at the picture in the one month old post!

hmm...maybe it is genetic.... although I can't fault Aaron yet--he can barely focus his eyes right now--let alone know where the camera is ;)

I love that! It is so true. We have a big family picture hanging in the living room, and it was one of about 50 shots that turned out well. And it does not at all reflect the mood we were in when it was shot. It was a split second of pure luck, when everyone was looking at the camera, pretty much smiling and the baby didn't have a runny nose glistening in the sun! Your kids are so cute!

So true! I haven't been taking very many pictures of my boys lately because they are UNCOOPERATIVE! Especially my third child. You know who.
