Easter Party

Saturday we went to an Easter Party at the YMCA.

Normally, the thought of taking the kids out to a party that starts after their bedtime doesn't really appeal to me, but this was a special case. Matt had to work all day so we had a LONG rainy Saturday with not much to do. I had already exhausted the really fun things to do with kids on a rainy day--like spend 2 hours at a fabric store trying to pick out fabric for Easter baskets I am making for them (I will post on those when I'm done), and then deciding to brave ANOTHER craft store looking for something that the first one didn't have (futility I might add)....so I figured that taking all 4 kids to a crazy party at the Y by myself after bedtime would be the perfect ending to the day.

The kids were really excited. We got there right when the party started--just in time for the pool egg hunt...except I forgot to bring swimsuits so we had to sit that part out. Then I had to listen to various kids complain about how they wished they could get the eggs in the pool and that would have been the most fun thing they have ever done....it was great.

Instead of the pool egg hunt (and to kill the hour we had until the regular egg hunt), we went to the craft area and made a bunch of fun crafts.
After making every possible craft, we still had about 40 minutes until the egg hunt--so we went to the gym for some free play.

Finally it was time for the egg hunt. Alex was in one room and Carter and Caroline were in another room. The egg hunt lasted about 2 minutes and Alex had a great time getting eggs. We took the candy out and returned the eggs then went upstairs to see how the others had faired.

Unfortunately, the older kids did not have as good of luck--Caroline found 3 eggs and Carter found 2--given to him by Caroline. They were devastated glad to have anything. Apparently, it was so bad that the workers felt bad and someone showed up at the door with a huge bag of candy and told anyone who didn't have very much candy to take some....this saved the day.

We escaped the egg hunt rooms, picked up our crafts and headed home. Listening to over tired kids argue over candy, cry from hunger (Aaron), and scream just for something to do made the whole evening worth while.....

It also convinced me not to look into any other public Easter egg hunts.....luckily the kids only remember it as a super fun thing that mom took them to.
