St. Patrick's Day

I LOVE St. Patrick's Day! Maybe it is because my mom always liked to celebrate it when I was growing up, maybe because I'm part Irish, maybe just because I like the color green :)

Last night the Leprechauns visited our house. They put magic dust in their drinking cups that turned the milk green, they left some green candy for the kids and they turned the water in all the toilets green. They were having so much fun that they left their little hats here by mistake.

For dinner we are "going green" as well. I love to dye everything green. When we got married, however, Matt said it was ok to do a green dinner--but it couldn't be dyed unnaturally green. So over the years I have done a lot of fun things with naturally green food.

Today our dinner will consist of: Green grapes, green beans, green apples, chicken with pesto, fresh spinach tortellini and pesto sauce, green jello and pistachio pudding for dessert. I usually have a little bit more fun on the dessert, but since I'm not eating desserts I don't want to make them either!

My mom always told me that her grandpa said he liked every color as long as it was green (I think this is the same one that only liked 2 kinds of pie--hot and cold)..... so Happy St. Patrick's day to all of you!

Do you celebrate St. Patrick's day? Any good ideas for next year?

Aww, that is so cute! I didn't do anything except some green milk and pancakes. But then Abigail came home from preschool SO excited because a Leprecan (sp?) snuck into their class and made a big mess and left chocolate gold coins for them. She was going on and on about it! Every time we left the house she would say "I hope a leprecan sneaks into our house", and then Jack and Aidan got really excited, because they wanted in on the fun...

So, I think I will do something tonight! Is that lame, or what?? :) But you know, they all went to bed hoping that a visitor would come, and how can I disappoint them?? (again) :)

I am so proud of you. I really fell down on the job this year. I didn't even wear green most of the day! My grandpa would be so ashamed!

I made some yummy green jell-o cookies (recipe is linked on my blog). I was so excited thinking about next St Patty's day when Ellie is older and can enjoy it!!

that's so cute! I love St. Patrick's day too. I agree with Matt though--dyed pancakes I'm ok with, but nothing else :)

Usually we have corned beef and cabbage (which I actually LOVE) But this year I was a little distracted...

I'm reading all this cool stuff about St. Patty's Day fun from you and lots of other moms too. I've never done anything like that! Great ideas! I just made sure we were all wearing green so we wouldn't get pinched!
