Swim meet--Horeshoe Bend

Caroline's last swim meet was against Horeshoe Bend. For the other meets I had been getting a babysitter for Carter and Alex...but my normal babysitter was leaving town and Carter really wanted to go to a swim meet and so I decided to take them.....I think all the time in the sun had affected my thought process.

So I show up to the meet with 4 kids--I get there early because I decide I need to have access to the car, just in case. So we get there at 4pm--Caroline has to be there at 4:30 and the meet doesn't actually start until 5:30 (but all the parking spots were gone by 4:15).

I was ready for the meet....I had paper to color, leapsters for them to play with, food to eat, money for treats (I figured if I spent the same amount on food as I paid the babysitter I was fine)...it was going to be fine. My dad decided to come last minute and I thought it would be fun to have him, but not really necessary.

Like I said....what.was.I.thinking.

By 5:15 the games had been played with, they had eaten the food they wanted, they couldn't even be bribed with candy (Alex would buy a treat and then not even want to eat it). I couldn't really blame them--it was 95+ degrees (not counting the HIGH humidity) and the last thing you wanted to be doing was sitting there watching other people swim--you wanted to be in the water yourself! It was miserable.

Luckily my dad came and helped me contain entertain the boys, at the pool, taking them to the playground, and we did break down and spend about 30 minutes sitting in the car with the air conditioner on!

Caroline did have a great meet, however, and she swam in 4 events--medly relay, individual freestyle, individual breast stroke, and freestyle relay.

The next night we went to the swim team banquet (ice cream sundaes and soda) and they had a slide show of pictures from the swim meets and handed out trophies.

Caroline got one trophy for being on the swim team.
And was then awarded with a trophy for most improved for the 7-8 year old girls.
When they gave her the award they said that she came to swim team not really knowing any of the strokes besides freestyle, and she developed into a pretty good breast stroke competitor. She always had a great attitude and was a great member of the team.
