While they were there the store was promoting a big giveaway they were having on Saturday, September 26th. They were giving out keys and you could bring your keys in that day and try to open a treasure chest and see if you won a prize. The grand prize was a band saw that my dad has wanted for a very long time.
My dad realized that he was going to be out of town and wanted to give his keys to Matt, but Matt had planned a hiking trip and wasn't about to give up hiking to go in and not win anything.
Matt took the keys anyway and figured he probably wouldn't go, but kept them just in case. Well, it turned out to be raining that Saturday, and there were flood warnings, so the hiking trip got cancelled.
Matt still didn't want to go to the store, he figured it was a big waste of time, but ended up going while I ran a bunch of errands and he was at home with the three older kids.
They get to the store and Matt is shocked when one of the keys opens the chest....but then he sees a bunch of envelopes (and they said they had already had 6-8 winners that day) and figures he will get a saw blade or something like that. They choose an envelope and open it......
They won! They won the grand prize--a $500 Delta Band saw! Matt couldn't believe it.
The store took a picture of Matt and the kids and since he couldn't fit the saw and the kids in the car, he chose right and brought the kids home and went back for the saw.Unfortunately, by the time he got back the store was closed, so he and my dad will go tomorrow to pick up the saw.
Matt called my dad and gave him the good news--he really only went to appease my dad and because it meant so much to my dad for him to go--he never thought he would win anything.
I told him the moral of the story is to always listen to your father-in-law....he said the moral is "If the million to one shot actually happens, be humble enough to eat crow".
Who would have guessed that eating crow would taste so good :)
