I now am fairly infamous at Caroline and Carter's school. Caroline has been there over a year, and I was in a lot so the office staff knew me a little, but now when I go in they all know me.....
it happened a few weeks ago.......
I decided mid August to get the kids their flu shots earlier than normal (I ususally wait for September/October). With all the stuff going around I decided to get them in asap to get it done (this was probably a smart idea because when Aaron and I got sick last week, no one else got it). So I called the doctor and they had openings that afternoon, but I would have to pick the kids up from school to get there on time.
So I called the school and sent an email so that they could tell the kids NOT to ride their bus home and to be "car riders" instead.
I got there really early--I was the third parent in line. Everything was great.
They let Kindergartners go first so Carter got to the carpool room and was told I was waiting so he came and got in the car. We waited and waited, but no Caroline. So I asked the attendant to call in and check on Caroline.
That's when it started. I wasn't sure what was going on at first, all that I knew was that they kept calling for Caroline and talking and saying that Carter was in the car and they were missing Caroline. Carter's teacher came out to the car at one point--this really confused me because it was Caroline we were missing--not Carter.
So finally Caroline came out to the car and I heard the whole story.
Apparently Caroline had arrived at the carpool room and discovered Carter wasn't there (because he was now in the car with me). When they called to tell her to come out to the car, she wouldn't go because Carter was missing. So the carpool room called Carter's classroom and told them that Carter was missing and that he may have gotten on the bus. Carter's teacher was positive that he had not ridden the bus "I put a huge piece of tape across his chest that said car rider and his number" (she really had--the tape was huge!). So she came out to the carpool lane to talk to me and then she saw that Carter was in the car. In the mean time the front office had gotten involved because a child was missing (but no one could agree on who was missing--the carpoool attendant kept saying Caroline was missing and the person in the room kept saying it was Carter that was missing....
FINALLY they got Caroline to come out to the car and she saw that Carter was there and we had her and I was able to leave.
Not to mention that by now it would have been faster for me just to meet their bus (which had left 10 min ago).
The next day I had to take something to the school and the front office staff said "Oh--You are Mrs. Urbanawiz--you are pretty famous now! I think what they meant to say was "Oh--now we have a face to put with the story that we will be telling for years to come"
The funny thing is that the kids still talk about it and Caroline gives all kinds of suggestions to Carter on how to handle it next time he leaves the carpool room before she gets there ( I keep telling her that I wouldn't have left without Carter, and I think it is sweet she was so worried about him).

That is sweet and funny and something that totally would have happened to us! Except, they would have sent one on the bus and one at schoo. Cause that's how we roll....funny story!! :)
I called in the other day without saying who I was and Linda at the front office said, "is this Mrs. ...." and I said,"yes," and then she said, "I thought that was your voice." Don't know if that is a good thing or not.
that's dang funny. I've also learned that "Kid missing" is a buzz-phrase, it'll set off everyone in a 5 mile radius.
Too funny. Happened to us too,but they put Hailey on the bus....the secretary "forgot" to tell her teacher!!!
