Kitchen Remodel--part 3

Kitchen Remodel part 2

Day 8
Day 8 brought to a head our granite issues.  The granite was supposed to be templated on day 3...but it kept getting put off.  Late afternoon on day 7 I got a call from the contractor and he told me that the reason for the delay was that the granite supplier no longer had the granite we had selected--neither did anyone else.

It was ironic to hear this because in January when we went to buy our new furniture the first things we picked out had been discontinued and they found out when we wanted to buy it...then when we went to pick out tile the slate we picked out first was discontinued, they found out when we tried to buy it.  Now the granite we had picked out was gone too.

Apparently, the sales person at the granite place had not wanted to tell our contractor that.  Not sure what she thought would happen by not telling us we had to pick out new granite, but the delay gave the contractor enough leverage with her manager that he agreed to give us the new granite at the old granite price.  This was nice, but we had already picked out the paint and backsplash to match the granite and the paint was a done deal so we were a little frustrated.

It turned out fine--we found some granite that we loved even more than the first one, it wasn't there when we went the first time, and the price was about 50% more than what we had paid for the other granite so we got a great deal.
as a bonus, it went great with the backsplash we had already picked out so we didn't have to change that.

Day 9
Painting was the worst.  We couldn't use the kitchen at all (normally we would use it at least to walk through or use the sink after they were done for the day).  That meant the following:  Our fridge was in the family room.  To get to the pantry items (in the dining room) from the fridge, you had to walk upstairs, then come down the other set of stairs, get what you needed then back up and down the staircases.  This made packing lunches or eating anything really unappealing.  Luckily it was only a few days, but it felt like forever.

Day 11

We were all thrilled when they finished the painting and took down the plastic for good.
The very best thing that happened was that our fridge was put back in the kitchen.
Day 13
Day 11 was a short day and they didn't come day 12 (waiting on the granite), but day 13 was momentous.  The Granite was installed, the backsplash started and the hardware put on most of the cupboards.
