Computer Warranties
A lot of people might tell you not to buy an extended warranty with computers because most things that break will break in the first year and the extended warranties aren't worth the money because computers depreciate so quickly.
This is not true for our family. The first time we bought a computer (through HP --using my dad's employee discount), it died shortly after the 1 year warranty expired. So we purchased another one and bought the 3 year warranty. About the same time we also purchased a desktop. About 2 weeks before the 3 year warranty was up both the desktop and laptop died.
To make an extremely long (and boring) story shorter, we were sent our desktop back and they basically sent us the outside case with everything inside being replaced--memory, hard drive, motherboard, ethernet card, dvd drive, etc--you name it and it was replaced.
The laptop we sent in and after many delays (and some string pulling by dad) we got a brand new laptop--they didn't make the parts to repair our old one anymore.
Fast Forward to 3 days ago....the laptop falls off the couch and the LCD breaks--the screen is beyond repair. We contact HP Support and tell them of the problem (and the dvd drive isn't working and the w key is missing)...it is all covered under warranty (the 1 year warranty that came with the new computer) and they are sending us a box to send it back in and they will repair/replace it.
So on the 3 year warranty we purchased for the laptop, we will now be getting our second laptop repaired/replaced.
We think we may be getting to the point that HP will pay us not to buy anymore computers from them...I fully expect their next email to include a link to Dell, telling us what a great company they are :)

I love it! Be glad you bought the warranty - my laptop died 2 years ago (with all of my non backed up data)and it has been sitting here broken because I don't want to pay the $300 to fix it!
