Airtight Storage Containers

Well, after doing a lot of research yesterday, I found some great airtight food storage containers. They are a brand by Heritage Mint and called Lock & Lock. Here is the link to their website. You can buy them at a lot of places (including Amazon), but I found the best price at the website I linked to. Here is one of many good reviews that I read on the containers.

I bought containers for my cereal, as well as some big containers that could hold pasta (I plan on taking it out of the box and putting it in ziplock bags, then putting the bags in the bigger container--that way I can have different types of pasta all in the same container), beans, and rice. I also bought 11 cup containers that will hold the contents of #10 cans (#10 cans have about 12-12.5 cups of product--but I figure if I don't use that much when I first open it then I can just keep it in a small ziplock bag until I need it again).

I also bought 6 gallon buckets with gamma seal lids (already had extra lids) for my flour and sugar--each bucket can hold 25 lbs of flour and a little more than that of sugar. I will store those in the basement (I have containers for upstairs) and can refill the upstairs conatiners as needed.

It was a little expensive to buy all of it at once--but it still was cheaper than replacing the food that I threw away on Sunday.
