You can't just buy this shoe anywhere--it takes a special event to get you this shoe! Here is how I got mine (in case you would like one too!)
I was walking out to meet Caroline's bus yesterday and as I walked out the door I tripped on the threshold, falling down onto our brick porch. As I lay on the porch trying to decide if I was ok, Carter (who was walking outside with me) said "You need to watch where you are going Mom." No thoughts of if I was ok--just to let me know I was being clumsy (in case I couldn't tell for myself).
I stayed seated until the bus came (since I can see the bus stop I usually just wait on the porch for Caroline) and Caroline came and went inside. There was a problem with the bus so it didn't leave right away--allowing lots of cars to backup infront of our house. I stood up to go inside and realized I couldn't put any weight on my left foot. I kept waiting for the bus to leave so I could crawl inside without humilitaing myself in front of a number of people, but no luck..... So I had Caroline and Carter come back outside and help me in.
After a number of hours of thinking I would be ok, I decided to go to the doctor. The doctor didn't think I had broken anything (they wanted to avoid an xray) and decided that I had probably done something to the tendons in my foot.
The next problem became figuring out how to get me to be able to walk. They tried crutches, but decided that it put me at too great of risk for falling (since I was already off balance because of the baby) and tried a number of different foot supports and airciasts that did nothing to help. So finally they tried wrapping my foot tightly with an ace bandage and giving me a post-op surgery shoe that changes the weight distribution on the foot.
It works in that I can walk around (still in pain, but I can walk), but it still hurts every time I take a step. The doctor was encouraging when he said the pain would probably last several weeks (not what I needed to hear), but at least there is no cast!
The silver lining in this whole experience, is that since I need to stay seated as much as possible, I have lots of time to update my blog with all the things we have done the last week (and I am way behind)--so get ready for a lot of new posts!

I am grateful that you didn't break it, sad that it hurts, but at least now you can get some rest before the baby -- or become more stressed. Either way, the time will pass before you know it!
Watch out for losing your other shoes! When I broke my foot, I found that I could only find one of each pair of shoes (the one for the non broken foot).
