Carter's 6th Birthday Party!

Planning for this party began about 364 days ago....about 10 minutes after the last guest has left, the planning begins for the next party. Actually just 1 year ahead isn't bad--most of the time we have parties planned for the next 4 years.

Up until a couple of months ago it was going to be a transformer party...that changed to a pokemon party, then a ben 10 party and then Dad and I helped him decide on a generic "Alien Party"

We started out the party by giving each kid a glow stick bracelet--so the aliens wouldn't get confused about who was an earthling and who was an alien.

Then we made some Alien masks.
We ate lunch consisting of:
  • Rocket Hot Dogs (hot dogs wrapped in a breastick and baked)
  • Green Asteroids (green graps)
  • Mini Meteors (green finger jello)
  • Martian Moons (sliced cucumbers)
  • Space Chips
  • Galaxy Juice (Lime sherbet and sprite)
Then it was time for cake. Carter was very excited about his Alien cake. We had found an idea to make an alien cake with gummy worms in the head and green pudding in the stomach.....
Here is the finished cake

We had saved his pinata from last year because we figured he would probably want another transformer party, and the pinata was perfectly fine (it originally had ribbons that everyone pulled and one opened the slot for the candy). When he changed to wanting an Alien party I was dreading trying to figure out some way to make the pinata work.

Lucky for me I'm friends with Misty--who is absolutely amazing. She came over and changed the pinata (originally with a big picture of Optimus Prime on it) to this:
Carter was thrilled--esp when she suggested he draw some aliens to put on Mars (at the bottom of the pinata)...it turned out fabulous.

We were running out of time (usually I have too much--this time I skipped one activity all together) and so I rushed the kids through the cake and ice cream and we hurried and did the pinata (most of the parents had arrived by that time).
As they were leaving we gave them a flying saucer and a picture of them that we had taken at the beginning of the party...unfortunately the glow bracelets didn't work and the kids turned into aliens after all.....
