Another day at the Zoo

Our last zoo trip before school starts. The zoo has a program for members where you can get a little book with different zoo animals in it. Each month a different animal is spotlighted. If you take your books you can get them stamped for that animal and get a little information sheet with facts about the animal. If you get so many in a row then you get different prizes. This month's animal was the Panda Bear and we have had 3 months in a row so the kids all got a t-shirt (they only had one size).
We decided to break from tradition and see some animals this time. I had also brought the nicer camera so I tried to take some better shots--I'm getting better, but I'm still not up to Matt's level yet.

The kids were worried about this flamingo only having one leg--we tried to explain that it was just tucked under, but I don't think all of the kids believed us.
The parakeet house is one of the kids' favorite things to do--you pay $1 for a stick with bird seed on it. In this enclosed area they have over 500 parakeets waiting to eat your birdseed. Usually it is pretty easy to get one on your stick.....unfortunately today you couldn't pay the birds to eat--they would not come down at all for any of the 50+ people there waving sticks around....it was pretty sad.
The warthogs are another of our favorites. These little babies were super tiny a few months ago when we came--now they are so big--I guess all babies just grow up too fast!
Everyone was super excited to see the sloth moving today! I guess it fits that normally we see the sloth just sitting on its perch not moving....but today it was up and going!
The area with turtles, frogs and aligators is always high on our list of things to see... There were a lot of turtles out today (but we didn't see the aligators)
This might be my favorite shot of the day--it looks like all the spots washed off the frog.
We always pack a lunch to eat at the zoo. Normally it ends up that my kids LOVE whatever it is that Shanna has packed for her kids (I pack things the kids like--but as soon as they see the food that Shanna packs all of the sudden they can't stand what I packed). I think Shanna could pack a bag full of onions and the kids would ask if they could have some of Shanna's food--lucky for them Shanna always packs extra.
We definitely couldn't go to the zoo without jumping at the bounce house!
No one wanted to see these Kangaroos....
But I found another cute one that I decided to take home.
This panda bear was a little scary....
So we found some nicer ones instead.
Every time we come the baby is sleeping in this exact spot--I wonder if it is a prop.
Mom was very active today--but last time we were here she was bouncing in the net and doing all kinds of jumps and flips--it was amazing.
for some reason, almost every vulture we saw ( at least 3 different vultures in 3 different cages) was standing just like this--it was weird to see them just stand there like that.
We were finally done with the pesky animals and could go to the playground....

Aaron's new favorite expression--I haven't been able to get a picture of it until now.
Alex could not stop washing his hands--touch something wash his hands, go on a slide, wash his hands...he was very clean.
Jack is normally so smiley--but I couldn't get anything but serious play today.
At one point I looked over and saw Alex had moved from his hands to his head--it was pretty hot outside.
After taking these pictures I realized that he was first putting soap on his hair then sticking his head in the water--funny until the soap ran down into his eyes....then I had to pick him up and turn him over to get all the soap out of his hair.
Caroline called me over "I've set up a great cousin's picture". She was leading the chant "Isay teeter" "You say totter" "Teeter" "Totter" "Go team" Over and over...it was very cute and everyone was participating in the chanting.Carter wanted a picture of a snake--but since we skipped the snakes this time, he settled for this one.
It was a great day--but it was so hot. We decided to hit the sprayground on the way home.
