After researching a few things we decided to try going to a small town called Intercourse, PA. There was a a pretzel factory where you could take a tour, a canning company with a tour, and lots of shops and things to look at.
It didn't really live up to our expectations. Mostly because I didn't really think about how the kids would be entertained while we did the things I had planned.
The pretzel factory did not live up to expectations. The brochures and websites touted a "tour of the pretzel factory"--reality was more in line with standing in a crowded room listening to how to make pretzels--not exactly thrilling to a restless 3 year old. We didn't even attempt the canning company tour. We tried the shops, but that wasn't much better. I did make it to an Amish fabric store (I knew it was authentic when Caroline and Aaron and I walked in and we were the only non-Amish in the store)--but Aaron started screaming and so we didn't last long there either.
We did get a picture of Carter and Alex--did I mention they could not pass up one of these types of signs without taking a picture?
We finally decided to leave and drive to see the house that Matt lived in when they lived in Pennsylvania.
We drove past his middle school, his house a park, and various other things in the area. We stopped at the park and let the kids run around for a while. This picture was taken on a swing that Matt used to play on when he lived there.

If you guys ever get up that way again, try the historical society. I can't remember exactly where it was, but it offered a short little movie that explained Amish history/culture. Wasn't too long, so the kids were able to sit through it. We also stopped at one of the local farmers markets and that was very yummy.
Looks like you guys are having so much fun! I love the old picture of you at Lagoon.
