Matt did all the planning (with Caroline giving the final OK to all the plans). We found a great group campsite at Nancytown Lake in North-Eastern Georgia, and found a lot of friends to go with us. The Hopes decided to come up on Thursday with us, Matt's dad and David and Aubrey also came up late on Thursday. Friday evening brought up My dad and Abigail, Adam, Matt's mom with Petra and William, and the Johnsons.
Here is the campsite that we stayed at--everything you see is part of the campsite--there were about 10 spots for tents and lots of parking. To the left you can see part of the group area--a big firepit with lots of seating, 9+ picnic tables, and access to a bridge the leads to Nancytown lake. Past the group area there is access to a small stream that feeds Nancytown Lake (more pictures of that to come).
Despite all of matt's planning--he got to enjoy the camp the least. We got there Thursday night (late because Matt couldn't get away from work) and then he had to work until about 1am. Then he had to get up at 5 and drive to get cell phone coverage to take a conference call at 5:30. At 6 he woke me up and said he had to go into work.....he made it back at 10:00pm and was back home and working by 2pm on Saturday. Poor guy.
Luckily the Hopes and the others were there on Friday to help me entertain the kids! We spent a couple of hours playing in the stream. Alex enjoyed pretending Misty's flip flop was a boat and the other kids liked using the small waterfall as a slide...it was nice and we all had a great time.
After we cleaned up and changed clothes Alex took a nap (he had an ear infection so I held him so he could sleep sitting up) and Carter played around the campground. Caroline went with Shay and Kaely fishing in the canoe, David and Aubrey went hiking and the rest of us just laid around and tried not to think about how hot it was!
About 4:30 we decided to go to Lake Russell (in the same park area) to swim--Shay and Dad Urbanawiz stayed to start dinner and the rest of us went swimming.
By the time we got back and changed dinner was just about ready and everyone was arriving. We had a fantastic dinner (did I mention that Matt did a FABULOUS job planning all the food and Shay was awesome to take over most of the cooking) and then sang happy birthday to Caroline.
Alex enjoyed dipping his green beans into his chocolate frosting--but who am I to complain if he wants to eat more green beans!
The rest of the evening we did the usual smores and campfire thing--Carter fell asleep in the hammock and Alex in my lap. Caroline outlasted me and was one of the last to go to bed!
The next day we had a nice pancake and egg and bacon breakfast then everyone played and cleaned up and got ready to leave. Some went swimming in the creek again, while others went back to the beach. It was supposed to get to a high of 97 that day, so no one was anxious to hang around too long! It was fun, but more fun if Matt could have been there the whole time....hopefully next time!
