- Get the kids to know how to bat
- Get them to stand up while in the field
- Get them to understand how to use their glove
Most of the kids did pretty good batting. One little boy was so excited to hit the ball that he ran the bases--not slowing down for anyone until he reached home. Carter was the last batter for his team so he was in charge of hitting the home run (basically the inning is over so everyone runs home.)
Fielding was a completely different story. Several times there was a pile up of about 8 kids trying to get the ball--they had to pull kids off the pile to find out where the ball was (remind you of football maybe?). There aren't a lot of restrictions on where you stand or what you do--Matt stood with Carter a lot of the time because he was getting upset at never getting the ball. The kids are all taught to get the ball and throw to first. Carter 'caught' the ball 3 times--the first two he ran the ball to the first baseman--the third time he actually threw it--receiving high praise from his coach.
Alex passed the time by using his glove and ball to play catch (more correctly titled Caroline played fetch with him)
