Our week went amazingly well. Poor Caroline was sick with a high fever for 3 of the 5 days. It isn't much fun to be stuck at home, lying on the couch, and not watch tv, but she was great.
The first day was pretty bad--for me and the kids. At one point Alex (who was so tired he was almost falling asleep) begged me to let him watch Mickey Mouse. I was really tempted to give in and let them watch their normal show after dinner, but we made it with no TV.
Tuesday was pretty easy--Alex and Aaron and I were gone most of the day with errands and the YMCA. When Caroline came home she had a fever so she laid on the couch and slept. The boys asked once to watch a show and then found other things to do.
Wednesday was really hard--the kids were great, but Caroline was really sick and needed to lay down to rest. Finally at 3 I let them watch tv. They watched 2-20 minute shows and then turned off the TV. I told them they could watch more if they wanted to and they said that was enough and found other things to do.
Thursday the boys and I were gone until 2 with the field trip. Matt had worked from home so he could watch Caroline. When I came back I found that Caroline had spent the morning making crafts, reading, and talking with Matt. I think Caroline watched one more show when her fever went back up, but the boys didn't even watch it with her.
Today was great--we haven't been home much, but when I asked the boys if they wanted me to turn on a show they said no and went downstairs to play.
So overall it was great--we weren't perfect, but that is fine with me and there were only a few times I was really annoyed that Shanna had mentioned the idea to me :) I don't know if I will do it again, but it has been great for us this week.
