Preschool Boating

Taking swimming lessons at the YMCA has a big advantage over anywhere else the kids have taken them...one lesson each session is devoted to boat safety.  The kids love to go boating in the swimming pool and what is cuter than a 3 year-olds in life jackets going boating?
The kids talk about wearing life jackets, how to help someone out of the pool, getting in and out of a boat, what to do when you fall in the water (turn over and float with you knees and arms to your chest).  It is a fun way to help them learn great information
Aaron's turn to do "Man Overboard!"

Ellie goes overboard

The swimming class:  Miss Natasha, Andrew, Aaron and Ellie
They have so much fun together.  Natasha is an incredible teacher and does a fabulous job with them.  Andrew has no fear-I've seen a lot of kids swim over the years and I have never seen a kid like him in the water--he looks for any and every chance to go under water--if he has to get in the water he goes underwater first, then to do what he needs.  Aaron and Ellie do a great job swimming.  The first 3 lessons Aaron had (in January) he cried the entire time.  Now he is swimming a few feet on his own and with a pool noodle he can swim across the pool.  Ellie is amazing--she is great at floating and can swim a few feet on her own---or across the pool with a noodle for help.  Pretty amazing for 2 kids that didn't want to get their heads wet a month ago.
