Championships

Swim team championships were held at Georgia Tech. Both Caroline and Carter were very excited to swim at Georgia Tech--where Matt went to school.  Too bad Matt was in Finland for championships since they were very close to his work.  We were almost late for the meet start--who knew we would hit massive amounts of traffic at 12:30 in downtown Atlanta.  We then hit all the swim traffic as we got on Tech's campus.  We were driving with my friend Megan and her son Derek and as we got within site of the aquatics center we finally had Megan and the kids hop out of the car and walk to the arena to hopefully get there in time...it was close, but we finally made it.

It was amazing how organized this was--they ran two pools (girls and boys) and it was amazing how they had kids sitting and standing at different times to avoid the boys jumping in for the start of the girls races and vice versa...really amazing.

Carter first swam freestyle.
He came in first in his heat!
Caroline getting ready to swim her relay
They did great--2nd in their heat
Carter getting ready for backstroke
He did great--his best backstroke time ever.
Caroline getting ready for her freestyle event
Caroline did great.  At championships they give ribbons to the top 30 kids in each event from 2 days of swimming.  Caroline earned 24th place ribbon in freestyle (not bad considering that there were 6 heats of 10 kids each just for our day there)
Caroline can make friends anywhere--with anyone.
Getting ready for breaststroke--she is so excited for this event.
She did so great--cutting off 2 seconds off her time (her Coach Anna, whose record she was trying to break, said she could have done better if she stopped looking at everyone else to see where they were)
She ended up earning a 12th place ribbon!

Unfortunately, the finals for Championships were held on Sunday this year, so the kids couldn't swim for the medals...but we had such a great time.  Caroline loved the practice pool that was 17 feet deep (for divers) and all Carter could talk about is when he goes to school there.  I was so proud of how well the kids did.
