This is both of them ready for their first event--I don't know if it was just coincidence that they almost always were in the same lane, but it sure made it easier to take pictures!
Caroline swimming her individual freestyle event
Carter swimming his individual backstroke
Caroline was so excited to swim breast stroke. This was her last chance to break the record that she had been working towards all season (did I mention she had dropped her time by 4 seconds over the course of the sesason?) She was still about 7 seconds from the record, but she was so excited to try.
About 5 events before she swam breaststroke, there was thunder. And more thunder, and some lightening, and more thunder and lightening, then some rain. Then they moved everyone inside the clubhouse to wait it out (at least 30 min from the last thunder heard)...Up until then it looked like the meet would finish early and I was so happy...now it would be so late as we waited for everything to stop.
Luckily the kids had brought things to do, and I had a book. So it wasn't too terrible (just terrible enough)--no air conditioning and the building full of wet kids and their parents sitting everywhere possible. It was great. Plus, Caroline was so worried that they would cancel the meet and she would lose her chance to break the record.
After 40 minutes they called the meet. The rain had stopped, but the thunder had not. It was a disappointing way to end the season.
