Over the weekend Caroline accomplished something she has wanted for quite some time. She broke a bone and needed a cast! Carter has had 2 casts over the last 2 years, and Caroline has always wanted to do the same.....
Over labor day we stayed the weekend at a group lodge in Cloudland Canyon state park (more to be posted on that later). The bedrooms were filled with bunk beds and had hard tile floors. Our second night there, Caroline fell out of bed about 5am and apparently landed heel first on the tile floor.
She was limping all day--but it didn't slow her down (of course, nothing does). When we got back on Sunday, she was still in a lot of pain, and there was swelling, so we took her in for x-rays.
One of the doctors working in the children's after hours clinic was an orthopedic doctor. When we looked at the x-rays he showed me three places he thought were broken--only one of those was giving her pain. That one was in the base of her heel. The doctor said it is almost impossible to break that bone unless you fall directly on it--which apparently she did.
She got a splint on Sunday and then went yesterday (Tuesday) to get a cast put on--there was still pain and it had become more swollen so they put a special gel pack in her heel to help ease the pain.
She loves having the cast--loves getting all the attention, but has started to realize that there are times that it isn't so fun to have a cast (like at night when your leg starts itching!).

Poor little girl!!! Ok, I know she wanted to get a cast, but I know it can't be fun to hurt (and itch!)
