Today Carter and I (Matt) did a morning canoe fishing trip on the Hooch near Azela park. Carter has been asking to go fishing with me for a while, and I promised a Daddy-Son trip just the two of us a while back, we grabbed the boats and headed to the water.
We invited the Hopes to come along and Shay brought all the kids. I decided to bring my 12' orange kayak along to relieve some of the crowding in their boat (1 adults and four kids in a 14' canoe seems fraught with peril).
Sklyar took the kayak and did a great job, until he got so tired that I had to tow him behind the canoe.
Along the way, Carter caught a 6" yellow perch. I hooked it for him, but he reeled it in. He was very happy, it was his first fish from anywhere other than a trout farm. The fish he caught was just a little smaller than the one in this picture (the perspective makes the fish look bigger than it is):
Afterward, Carter and the Hope kids waded and played in the water a bit. Carter got very messy.
I also brought my blue squirt cannot that looks like a cut-down pool noodle. Carter was having fun putting a Styrofoam cup on top of it and launching the cup into the air. He called it his "torpedo."
We finally left about 12:15 -- at which point I was very tired.
Below is the path we took. While parts of the river look dry in Google Maps, we had plenty of water the whole way.
