Last week of summer: Our day in Dahlonega

The kids were really excited about our day in Dahlonega. Despite my best intentions, we didn't leave until about 11:30. We ate lunch on the way and headed straight for the gemstone grubbing.
The kids love looking for gems in the sand.

Showing their gems (and looking at the water that was fun to play in!)

It was raining as we finished with the gems, so we waited until the worst rain left and went to the car.  I was a little nervous because the rest of the day was outside, and if it was pouring rain, we would be in trouble!

As we left the mine and headed for historic Dahlonega, it stopped raining.  Shortly after that we passed by a beautiful lake.  As I drove I saw a car parked and a bunch of ducks/geese gathered around.  Aaron has just recently learned to say duck and loves finding ducks....so I made a last second decision and we stopped to see the ducks.
As we drove up the ducks ran to the car hoping for food.
Once they realized we didn't have any food, they were not that interested anymore.
The kids had fun watching the ducks, and Aaron couldn't get enough (from a distance)
After about 20 minutes the ducks decided to leave...so we watched them swim away before we left.
Our next stop was to get some ice cream.  The kids asked for double scoops, but I talked them into singles.  The kids were barely able to get through the one scoop--they were huge cones!

After the ice cream (and a trip to the bathroom to wash up) we headed to the general store.  The kids all chose a small toy to buy and we headed home.

I asked the kids what they liked best:
  • Caroline:  Gem Grubbing and ducks
  • Carter:  buying the toy from the general store
  • Alex:  Everything!
  • Aaron:  duck duck
It was a great day for all of us.
