Our original plan was to check in at the cabins, unpack, relax and have dinner at a favorite restaurant at 5:30. Because we were there so early we decided to go to Animal Kingdom then to dinner.
Arrived at Animal Kingdom and sorted through reprinting lost tickets. Somehow, Matt had 4 days on the tickets, the rest of us have 3 (we all have always gone to the park together). So we will have to buy one day tickets for 3 of us....oh well.
Despite our best efforts, Caroline still wasn't feeling good. It was so sad to be sick when she had looked forward to this more than anyone!
here we are at the entrance--Caroline didn't want to be in the picture (can't blame her) and no one else wanted to either--but they weren't sick so I made them--already off to a great start!
We started
with Safari--the crowds were so light that we were able to walk on. Caroline didn't want to go because it was going to be a bumpy ride so Matt took her and they left before
boarding. The boys really got into the safari and loved all the animals we saw.
The storyline of the ride is that you are taking a Safari. Midway into the safari a helicopter patrol discover poachers and the radio dispatcher at HQ asks you to go chase them since you are closest to their position. At the end you catch the poachers and save the baby elephant.
When we "caught" the
poachers, the boys gave each other a high five and said "we did it!"
We met up with Matt and Caroline after the ride and the boys told him all about saving the baby
elephant and the poachers and everything--the people on the benches
around us were having trouble not laughing at how excited they were!
Playing drums in Africa
We ate lunch and decided Caroline had done as much as she was going to do (so far just resting on the bench and walking to lunch). She wanted to see the Festival of the Lion King so we decided we would do that and then one of us would take her to the hotel.
On the way to the show I realized it had been a while since we gave her any medicine so we stopped by the first aid station and they gave her tylenol (fever was 103) and had a bed that she could lay down in. After she slept for about 20 min she woke up feeling much better and decided to stay longer.
Matt and Alex and Aaron had split off while Carter, Caroline and I rested at the first aid station. We were planning on meeting up at the show, but my battery was dead and there was a mix-up so they ended up seeing the show while we waited in another area (thinking they wouldn't have time to make the show we didn't go).
While we were waiting Caroline and Carter took a photo with Donald.
The park
was empty--well, there were people around, but no one was on the rides.
Not a single ride had a wait time listed more than 10 min. Caroline and I rode Expedition Everest
at 2pm and didn't even pause until we were lined up waiting to get in
the car--so we did it 2 more times. Matt took Caroline and Alex and rode Kali
river rapids while I took Carter and Aaron to the show we had missed earlier--Caroline decided she would rather ride Kali then go to the show. they rode it 5 times without stopping--there was no one
in the queue. They could have gone longer, but Alex was starting to
shake and his lips were blue so Matt figured it was time to get out!
Here are Caroline and Alex on the ride
Matt took this video on one of their rides down the river. They would try to predict who would have to go down the waterfall backwards--most of the time Matt was right--this one wasn't one of those times!
We finally checked into the cabin we had rented about 7--unloaded, unpacked and got the kids to bed by 8. As is our usual routine at Disney--Matt and I were asleep shortly after the kids!
